Nov. 26th

Hello Parents
I enjoyed meeting with you all last week at parent conferences, talking about your child's progress and discussing their goals for second term. All students will be taking home a copy of their goals on Monday of this week. Please post it in a location at home, where students can reference it from time to time through the second trimester.

Reading
As part of our character unit, we spent time working in book club situations sharing our thoughts and adding on to the ideas of others. This was a new skill for many of the students yet they rose to the challenge and made a lot of progress as book club members. Please enjoy these little video clips of some of these sessions.

We have recently begun a unit on nonfiction and will be looking at strategies to develop our reading of this genre. As there is so much information to absorb reading nonfiction, students are encouraged to read at an earlier reading stage.  At home please be sure to encourage any extra nonfiction reading over the next several weeks.

As writers we have  published our realistic fiction stories and these are proudly on display outside the classroom. Please drop by and enjoy these stories as the student devoted a tremendous amount of work into their finished product.

We completed our science unit with a car challenged organized with Mr. Sadek's middle school students. Working together using their newly gained knowledge about magnets and electricity, students were given materials and asked to create a working car. Here are a few pictures and vidoes of the event.

In math, Grade 4 students have successfully finished a division unit and will be starting to grow their understanding of fractions.

Until next time,
Theresa
