It has been a whirlwind of learning in the grade three/four room over the past few weeks. The students are all putting forth a great effort and soaring as learners.
Reading
We are wrapping up our fantasy study this week. Students have thoroughly enjoyed reading and talking about these wonderful lands with their reading partners. Students know as fantasy readers they need to :
- think about the quest of the main character/s
- think what gets in the way of achieving this quest
- learn about the fantasy land along side of the main character
- think about what the book is teaching them about real life situations
- as they read series books, they need to look for similarities and differences
We will begin our unit on historical fiction in the next week or so.
Writing
We have proudly finished our nonfiction pieces after weeks of researching, drafting revising and editing. These are displayed outside our room for your reading pleasure. We also enjoyed learning from our visiting author the importance of details, verbs and hooking the readers. He was impressed with the writing skills of this talented group of students. We will even be sending our revised poems on sea turtles, we started with Mr. Steve, to him and he will publish these on his blog!
Math
Grade four has finished our study of length, volume and mass and will complete our work with area in the next few weeks.
Science
Students have researched a question related to our study of sound and have shared these with the class using google presentation. We enjoyed sharing our homemade instruments and becoming traveling musicians. Thank you for your support at home completing this project. Next week we will begin our study of freedom and civil rights.
