The end of the year is fast approaching - how did this happen??
As we wrap up the school year students are busy completing projects and planning end of the year activities and finishing units of study.
As readers, we have been working on a unit around social issues. Students have focused on the following:
- defining and identifying social issues
- reading with a second lens so that they are looking beyond what happened in the story but empathizing with the characters
- identifying the group which the characters belongs to and how this affects their response to an issue
- looking for themes between books
- articulating their opinions on the various issues
This week students will form books clubs around this unit as well as complete the end of the year reading assessment.
As writers we have been busy preparing for our upcoming Writer's Cafe on June 3rd at 11:15. Both moms and dads are welcome to attend this event and we look forward to sharing our writing with you.
In math we have just finished our huge unit on geometry and will be moving into our final unit of the year on probability and statistics.
Exploration is the focus of our final social studies unit. Students have been researching various explorers in fields such as medicine, space, underwater, environment and the past. Students will be choosing one specific explorer to focus on and present at our wax museum the last week of school.
Thank you to all the parents who have offered to help out with our International Day as we prepare for our Greek booth.

Hope to see you soon,
