News September 21st

Hello Parents
It was great to see many of you at our open house. I hope you have a better understanding of the grade four curriculum and expectations. At any time you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask or arrange a meeting time.

Language Arts
The last few weeks we have continued to add on to our list of strategies to enhance our  comprehension.  We have looked at types of connections, how we need to infer answers to  questions as well as infer the meaning of some words. This is also known as reading between the lines and good readers use this skill.
Thank you for reminding your child the importance of reading 40 minutes per day. I've really noticed an improvement in their home reading log.

Enjoying some time in our fantastic new library!!

As writers student have worked through the writing process and have published their first narrative. Stayed tuned for an upcoming link to hear your child's story!

Traveling Authors!

Math
We have finished our study of data and have started a new unit working with larger numbers and understanding place value. Students will be expected to understand the following concepts:

  • reading, writing, counting and ordering 6 digit numbers
  • place value of 7 digit numbers
  • rounding to the nearest tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousand, hundred thousand and million
  • estimating and adding and subtracting larger digits
  • finding missing addends
  • word problems with larger numbers
Science
The students were excited to have Mr. Bones join us for our unit on the human body. Students will be completing experiments as we discover how our bones, joints and muscles help our bodies function.

Talk to you soon,
Theresa and her fourth grade team!
